AS OF OCTOBER 1, 2008, LIBERTY ROCK BOOKS MOVED IN TO THE SPACE FORMERLY OCCUPIED BY THE HOBART BOOK MART, COOK THE BOOKS AND FALLSVIEW MYSTERY SHOP.
IT IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS ALTHOUGH MANY OF ITS BOOKS ARE NOT YET ON THE SHELVES.
The re-opening of Liberty Rock Books on Saturday, November 15, 2008 in the Hobart Book Village, after 8 years of hibernation.
For all those years it existed solely in the online web environment. The veteran used and antiquarian bookseller was founded in 1976,
and has had four previous open-shop locations in New York State. While moving part of their varied stock into one of the exiting shops at
698 Main Street, Hobart, principal partner James Mahoney said, "We need to get out and meet people face to face again.
I am really excited to have found this unique group of bookshops in Hobart and to join them in the Hobart Book Village this fall.
Liberty Rock Books has been actively working towards this for a full year, and we are looking forward to further expansion in the months ahead.
The booksellers have accumulated an estimated 85,000 books over the years, and are systematically going through their storage area to
retrieve a good sampling of their stock for the Hobart location, just in time of the semi-annual Hobart Book Village Thanksgiving Weekend Sale.
Most of their stock was culled from the estates of two octogenarian life-time booksellers, and several private collectors, and is heavy in material
from the period 1880 - 1950. "We're generalists with many strong specialty collections. We expect to have a sizable collection of children's books,
Americana, and antiquarian books on hand for opening day," added Mahoney. In addition there will be good books in most subject fields,
attractive to both the collector and the reader alike. Principal partners James Mahoney and Thomas Liotta will be joined by store manager John Mahoney
and business manager Stephen Hoefer in the Delaware County venture.
