"THE PEAKS & TRAILS OF CATSKILL PARK"
BY CAROL & DAVID WHITE
The Whites are authors of Catskill Day Hikes for All Seasons and editors of Catskill Trails, published by the Adirondack Mountain Club. They measured 350 miles of trails with a surveyor's wheel to produce regularly updated and accurate guides. They assisted in the production of the National Geographic Catskill Park Trails Illustrated Map and updated its 2nd edition in 2014. The Whites were awarded ADK's Eleanor F. Brown Communication Award in 2013. Carol received the Susan B. Anthony Legacy Award in 2007 with polar explorer Ann Bancroft and long-distance swimmer Lynne Cox.
The Whites became winter members of the Catskill 3500 Club in 1994, Adirondack Winter 46ers in 1997, and completed winter climbs of the 48 White Mountain high peaks in 2006. They are Northeast USA 111ers, climbers of the 115 peaks exceeding 4,000 feet, and have climbed eight of Colorado's 14,000-footers. In October 2014, they achieved recognition by the Catskill Mountain Club as first 'Catskill All Trails' finishers, having hiked all 350 miles of 87 Catskill trails.
