WORKSHOP OPTION  - SCREENING & ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION
  - BEAUTY IN TRUTH
    (ALICE WALKER DOCUMENTARY)

SLOT # 4 - Saturday 9/6 from 3:00 to 5:00

Beauty in Truth is Pratibha Parmar's second documentary on Alice Walker. And like the Pulitzer Prize winning author, it is a provocative look at Walker's maturation as writer, activist, humanitarian, and advocate on behalf of planet Earth. Walker, the child of share croppers, grew up under the whip of southern segregation in Georgia and  her work came to record the impact of the Civil Rights Movement on black women. Director Parmar's insightful project reminds us of Walker's singular stature as a pioneering American writer. The film is a must-see for anyone interested in the choices many women writers make, or are forced to make, in pursuit of their gifts as writers.

Roundtable discussion with Esther Cohen, Alexis De Veaux, and Tayari Jones after screening.

NOTE:  This is a "Recent Addition" Workshop.  If you have already registered and wish to attend or need to change a workshop that you've already signed up for in this slot, please contact
